"Bold Voices: Fearless and Essential” This is the 2002-2003 theme of Connie Barden, President of AACN. I had the pleasure of meeting Connie at a recent conference in Hampton. She is genuinely interested in hearing from you about the topics you consider important to critical care nursing. She wants to know what helps you provide optimal care and what stops you. She needs input from you on the continuous changing healthcare environment. Your input helps drive AACN’s voice. You may contact Connie Barden at aacninfo@aacn.org, phone number (800) 394-5995, or fax number (949) 362-2020.
AACN launched the Voice Project in May at the 2002 National Teaching Institute and Critical Care Exposition. It is easy to participate in this project. Simply visit the AACN website at www.aacn.org and click on the Voice Project icon. There are two questions for you to answer. The first is “If you had the opportunity to communicate to the world why critical care nurses are essential, what would you say?” The second question is “What do you do to continually renew your passion for nursing?” Share your voice by visiting the AACN website today.
The Greater Richmond Area Chapter of AACN is also interested in hearing from you. In conjunction with the Strategic Plan formulated in May, we are working to improve communication within the local organization. The Flowsheet, mailed to members quarterly, is a newsletter for and by members of GRAC-AACN. . You are encouraged to write articles for The Flowsheet about your opinions on what is happening in healthcare and nursing, a case study, or a unique solution developed to address a problem on your unit. You can even share a website address or where to get cool information for your PDA.
GRAC-AACN is using a group email list through Yahoo Groups. This is an excellent forum for group discussions among local members on any topic that interests you. It is also a great way to share information and get feedback from colleagues in the greater Richmond Area. Just send your message or question to GRAC@yahoogroups.com. If you are interested in being on the group email list please write us at grac.info@aacn.org.
In the words of Thomas Jefferson, “I consider the people who constitute a society or nation as the source of all authority in that nation.” As critical care nurses we are THE source of information about critical care nursing. Please let your voice be heard.
